How to Write Your Story

When You Write

Follow these guidelines to protect your identity:

1. Don’t use your name, only the initials of your first and last name will do.

2. Don’t use other people’s names, only identify the context of your relationship to them (i.e. my spouse, my child, my siblings, my parent, my grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, neighbor, employer, co-worker etc.)

3. Don’t use names of your town, city or county, only refer to your state or region of your country.

4. You can also use initials that aren’t yours and not name your state or region of your country if you choose to do so.

5. Folks are more likely to read your story if you keep it short. As an example, “DJ’s Story … Just Trust” is probably too long but I guess I couldn’t help myself! Also, you can be creative with your file name so people can find it more easily when you tell them about it.

REMEMBER: Life is messy and we just need to be there for other through it all.  As you write emphasize what you’ve learned over the shame and guilt. Tell about what it means to you that you’re forgiven. Share how you have hope!

Step One

Tell about your life before you believed in Jesus

Step Two

Tell about when you believed in Jesus

Step Three

Tell about your life since you’ve believed in Jesus
